Scheduling Test Sessions

Use the Test Session Scheduler window to schedule a saved test session for execution at some time in the future. In order for your test to run successfully, the test session must be valid (no test cases in need of repair), all of the test servers involved must be able to support another test session, and the addresses used in your test session cannot conflict with another running test.

You can schedule any test from the Test Session Library and modify any schedules that you have defined with the Scheduled Test window. Users with Test Administrator or higher account permissions can modify all schedules.

The Serial Test Runner (STR) allows you to run a list of Test Sessions sequentially on demand or at a specific time or periodically providing you with the ability to schedule and serially execute all tests (or subset of tests) in a library. Additional details in topic Serial Test Runner.

To add a new schedule:

1.

Open the Scheduled Test window using one of the following methods.

  • Select a cell in the schedule and click New.

  • Double-click an empty or gray cell in the schedule.

2.

Click the Select... button and the Test Session Chooser window opens. Navigate through the library to the section containing the test session and either double-click the test session or click once and then click the Select button. The test session name is displayed in the Test field.

DTA - Select to indicate this is a DTA Test, switches the “New Scheduled Test” dialog into DTA mode. When you click Select button it will show you the DTA Test Session libraries. And only the options available to DTA Test Session will be available. DTA Tests can be recurring and can be paused, but they do not support the Stop or Abort options. Additional details about DTA tests in topic DTA Administration.

Select STR to to indicate this is a Serial Test Runner.(STR).

3.

Set the Start Time using the drop-down list and the calendar. The day and time corresponding to the cell that you selected in the schedule is displayed by default. The current day and time is displayed if you selected a cell in the past. You can use the drop-down lists to select the time, month, or year and click on a day or your arrow keys to navigate through the calendar.

IMPORTANT: The TAS time is always used when scheduling tests. Its time zone is displayed in the Test Session Scheduler window.

4.

Setting a Stop time is optional. You can schedule a test to run indefinitely and then reconnect to it and stop it manually. Test sessions that have a defined duration on the Session Builder tab or through Automation Control will run for their defined duration but only the minimum duration (5 minutes) will be displayed in the schedule unless you also define a scheduled Stop time.

When the Stop time is reached, the test will begin to stop and will reach the Stopped state when all sessions have been disconnected. The amount of time the test continues to run after the Stop time depends on the size of the test.

  1. Click Stop.

  2. Select At Specific Time and define the stop time as you defined the start time, or select After Duration, enter the number of days, enter the number of hours, and select the number of minutes.

DTA Tests can be recurring and can be paused, but they do not support the Stop or Abort options.

5.

Setting an Abort time is optional. Stop and Abort times are both relative to the Start of the test and not to each other.

When the Abort time is reached, the test will be aborted.

  1. Click Abort.

  2. Select At Specific Time and define the abort time as you defined the start time, or select After Duration, enter the number of days, enter the number of hours, and select the number of minutes.

    NOTES:
    • If both Stop and Abort times are configured, Abort time cannot be less than or equal to Stop Time.
    • If currently using test_scheduler_abort in the TAS Settings, discontinue and use the Abort feature.
    • DTA Tests can be recurring and can be paused, but they do not support the Stop or Abort options.

6. Click Save to add your test and return to the schedule. Click Save and Add Another to add your test and leave the window open so that you can define another schedule. Click Cancel to return to the schedule without adding a test.

To schedule a recurring test:

1. Check the Recurring Test box. (See New Scheduled Test window)
2.

Select to Pause a test and when to Resume the test. Enter Date/Time to resume. You can Pause scheduled tests, this will prevent the test from starting in the future until the pause time expires or you manually resume the scheduled test. If the scheduled test is already/currently running, it will continue to run as normal. Pause only prevents future test runs.

Note : Resume means to resume the Scheduling of the items at its regularly scheduled times, not to change its start time to match the resume date-time.

When you Pause a test you will messages in the Real-Time logs that indicate " Skipping scheduled test, disabled for user=xxx, from day, mon, day hour:min:sec CST Year  to day, mon, day hour:min:sec CST Year".

When you Resume a test you will messages in the Real-Time logs that indicate " Re-enabled scheduled test, resumed for for user=xxx, deleted temporary disabled period starting at day, mon, day hour:min:sec CST Year".

3.

Select Auto-Pause on Failure, to pause a Recurring test that fails to start or completes with CRITERIA == FAILED.

Only applicable to TEST, not allowed with STR or DTA schedules.

Available via RESTFul API - "pauseOnFail" - True/False

If Test fails to start or if CRITERIA == FAIL, the scheduled test will be marked Paused (disabled) until manually resumed (resume time = 0)

  • Add Multiple test sessions at once: Use the Import Wizard Settings to import .csv file

  • You can also use the Export Schedule CSV (or Shift+Alt+X ) to a file where you can further edit then use the Shift-Alt-A function to import the schedule.

  • Once you've created a schedule profile, you can save the wizard settings to a file and import it

3. Click Save to save your changes or Cancel to discard your changes.

  • For all user accounts, and Show = My Tests, the label displays as: Temporarily Disable My Tests.

2.

The Disable Scheduled Tests window displays.

NOTE: The Window label depends on your user account.

  • Select Disable Test Start Time and Day.
  • Select Disable Resume Test Schedule. You may select to resume test at a specific time or after the specified duration.
NOTES:
  • The Super User accounts have the option of disabling all scheduled tests when Show = All Tests. The time span (from Disable Test Start Time to Disable Resume Test Schedule) applies to all scheduled tests.
  • Your scheduled or recurring tests that fall within the time specified to disable and resume test is not executed.
  • When you temporarily disable tests, it is not persistent. If you restart the TAS for any reason, such as an upgrade, the tests will not be disabled; the schedules will run again. However, when you pause scheduled tests, it is persistent and if you restart the TAS, they will still stay paused.
3.

Click Save to temporarily disable scheduled tests or Cancel to discard any changes.

NOTE: Depending on your user access, the temporarily disabled scheduled tests period displays as follows on the Test Session Scheduler window.

Magenta For Super User account, when Show = All Tests
Gold For all user accounts, when Show = My Tests

For example, Operator1 (user account) may temporarily disable scheduled tests belonging only to the Operator1 account and the disabled period appears in Gold color on the Test Session Scheduler window. Any temporarily blocked test period by the Super User account also appears on Operator1's view and is Magenta in color.

The blocked time by the Super User (in Magenta) indicates that no user can schedule anything during that time. Hence, the blocked time by the Super user appears on all user's view.

When you select a Temporarily Disabled period, only the Edit and Delete options are available.

In Daily View pane, you may right-click to Edit or Delete (Re-Enable tests) the temporarily disabled range or use the Scheduler window control buttons.
