Adding a Test Case

Before you can execute a test session, it must contain at lease one test case and can contain multiple test cases. Use the Session Builder tab... or the Network Browser tab… to add a test case to the session. This topic includes adding test cases from the Session Builder tab. See also the topic on adding test cases from the Network Browser tab.

You can either add a new or existing test case to the session. If you add an existing test case, you can choose to link the test case to the session or save a local copy of the test case with the test session.

Adding a test case consists of selecting the test server that will execute the test case and configuring the test case parameters using a series of windows. You can click Cancel in any of these windows to stop the action.

To add a new test case:

1. Click the New button in the test case control button pane on the Session Builder tab and the Add New Test Case window opens.
2. Click the Filter button to limit the test cases displayed to only those test cases with matching keyword.
3.

Select the required Test Case displayed in the Select TC [Type] pane and then select the appropriate Test Server that hosts the test case from the Select Test Server pane.

NOTE:  You can Sort the test case list by any column. Click the column header and the list is sorted by that column. An arrow indicates whether the list is sorted in ascending or descending order, and you can reverse the order by clicking the column header again.

4. Click the Select button or double-click the test case name and Test Case Settings window opens.
5. Use the checkboxes, fields, and drop-down lists in the Test Case Settings window to configure the parameters for the test case. See the "Setting Up" topic in the Test Applications section for instructions on configuring the parameters in a specific test case.
6. Click OK to add the test case or Cancel button to cancel the task.

To add an existing test case:

1. Click the Open button in the test case control button pane on the Session Builder tab and the Add Existing Test Case(s) window opens.
2. Select the library where the test cases reside from the Library drop-down list and use the Filter button to limit the test cases displayed to only those test cases with matching keywords.
3.

Select one or more test cases.

NOTE:  You can Sort the test case list by any column. Click the column header and the list is sorted by that column. An arrow indicates whether the list is sorted in ascending or descending order, and you can reverse the order by clicking the column header again.

4. Click Select or double-click the test case. The following actions apply depending on your selection of the Test Server dropdown list, Open the test case(s) for editing, and Add only a link to the test case check boxes:
Test Server

Optionally, select the Test Server to host the test case(s) from the Test Server dropdown list. The table below shows the selection and response. After this step, go to Step 6.

If you select one TC and select <Select TS Later> from the Test Server dropdown list...

The Select Test Server window displays with a list of TSs. Select the appropriate TS to host the TC.

If you select one or more Test Cases and select a specific TS from the Test Server dropdown list...

All the test cases are assigned to the selected Test Server.

If you select one or more Test Cases and then select <Select TS Later> from the Test Server dropdown list...

The Assign Test Cases to Test Server window displays. Select one or more TCs then click a TS to assign.

If your system has only one TS...

The TS is automatically selected and assigned to the TCs.

Open the test case(s) for editing

If you choose to add the test case(s) to the Test Session without editing, clear the checkbox Open the test case(s) for editing, the test case(s) are added to the Test Session.

NOTE:  The Open the test case(s) for editing checkbox is selected by default.  If more than 3 test cases are selected and editing is also selected, a warning displays asking you to confirm whether you wish to open all TCs for editing. If more than 10 test cases are selected, the editing option will not be allowed to prevent run-away windows.

If you choose to edit the TC, that is, select the Open the test case(s) for editing checkbox (not clear the default selection), the Test Case Settings window...  for the test case(s) display. If you have selected multiple test cases, each TC would open for editing and Steps 5 and 6 apply to each of them. Go to Step 5.

Add only a link to the test case If you would like to add a linked test case, check the Add only a link to the test case box. Go to Step 6.
Adding/Importing a saved test case

If you add an existing TC to a Test Session, which is using a different test server (from that configured in the TC),  a message displays asking you whether you would like auto-select IP addresses to replace the invalid test node IP addresses.

You may say yes for automatic selection or no to manually repair the Test Node IP addresses (that is, open the test case and assign test note IP address).

NOTE: The imported TC IP Addresses are assigned/imported as is, if the imported test case IP Addresses is within the target test server’s Phy-Subnets.

If not, you are prompted with the choice to Auto-Select IP Addresses based on new TS information, or leave it as is for manual selection.

The Auto-Select assigns the test case IP Addresses to the first IP Addresses in the target TS's Phy-Subnets.

5. Use the checkboxes, fields, and drop-down lists in the Test Case Settings window... to configure the parameters for the test case. If you are adding a local copy of the test case, you can use the Name field to identify the test case within the test session. With a linked test case, the Name field always displays the name of the saved test case. See individual Test Cases for instructions on configuring the parameters in a specific test case.
6.

Click OK to add the test case or Cancel to stop the test case from being added. If you made any changes to a linked test case, you will be asked whether you want to Save linked test case or Unlink/Copy test case and retain a local test case.

IMPORTANT: If you choose to save a linked test case, the changes that you made will be reflected in all test sessions that link to the test case. To create a new linked test case, choose Unlink/Copy test case and use the Save As button on the Session Builder tab to save and link to the test case.
