The GPRS test application provides a comprehensive nodal capability for Gateway GPRS Support Nodes (GGSNs). You can test a GGSN in a variety of access models.
When describing the GPRS network and access models the following definitions are used:
Mobile Node (MN) — The mobile subscriber unit
Home Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) — The GPRS network where the user's Network Access Identifier (NAI) is homed, and that provides the user with IP based data services. It may be a private network or a publicly accessible ISP network.
Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) — The SGSN serves as the mobile subscriber's access point to the GPRS network, and may reside in either the subscriber's home PLMN or a visited PLMN. It is primarily responsible for network access control and mobility management.
Packet Data Network (PDN) — An external IP Network that may or may not reside behind a firewall and that may use private IP addresses.
The GGSN provides the interface between the GPRS network and the external data packet network. In addition to packet routing, it is responsible for access control, subscriber authentication, IP address allocation, and GGSN accounting.
You can expand the 3GPP testing capability of your test system with the following applications and features:
The GGSN Emulation feature provides a virtual GGSN that can support test operations driven by another test system or tool.
The Gb/IP Support feature adds 2G-SGSN nodal and end-to-end testing capability through the UMTS test case.
The UMTS test application provides nodal 3G-SGSN and end-to-end 3G-SGSN/GGSN testing.
The CGF Emulation feature provides the CGF Node test case, which can collect CDRs from SGSNs and GGSNs. Add the GGSN G-CDR Validation feature to enable G-CDR validation.
The AAA RADIUS Server Emulation and AAA Diameter Server Emulation features can provide AAA services for the test network, alleviating the need for physical servers.
The DCCA Server Emulation feature can provide credit control services for the test network and can assist in testing a GSN's credit control procedures and controls.
