The Mobile IP test application provides nodal test capability that is fully compliant to RFC 3775 for Mobility signaling over IPv6, and supports either RFC 2002 or RFC 3344 for Mobility signaling over IPv4. The basic application provides HA nodal testing with MIPv4 and HA and CN nodal testing with MIPv6. The PDIF (Packet Data Interworking Function) Test Feature adds PDIF-FA nodal and PDIF-FA and HA end-to-end testing with IPSec and MOBIKE.
When describing a Mobile IP network and access models the following definitions are used:
Mobile Node (MN) — The mobile subscriber unit.
Home Agent (HA) — A router that controls access to the network and tracks the location of registered MNs.
Foreign Agent (FA) — A router that provides mobility services to a registered MN while it is in a foreign IPv4 network.
Correspondent Node (CN) — A peer or host with which an MN can exchange bearer plane traffic in an IPv6 network.
Home address — The MN's permanent IP address. This address remains the same regardless of the network to which the MN is attached.
Home network — The network that shares the MN's IP address prefix. When an MN is attached to its home network, it can directly receive packets directed toward its home address. This is also referred to as the home link in an IPv6 network.
Foreign network — Any network other than the MN's home network. This is also referred to as a foreign link in an IPv6 network.
Care-of address — The temporary address used to communicate with an MN when it is attached to a foreign network. In an IPv4 network, this address may be either the address of an FA or a co-located care-of address assigned to an MN interface. In an IPv6 network, this address is always a co-located care-of address on the MN.
Binding — The association of an MN's care-of address with its home address for a specified lifetime while the MN is attached to a foreign network. A binding is always registered with the HA.
Network Host — An application server with which the mobile node can exchange bearer plane traffic in an IPv4 test.
