The Home Subscriber Server (HSS) emulator allows for validation of network performance and capacity in a realistic network environment. The HSS simulator provides mobile subscriber data repository, authentication information, and routing information services for SGSN in UMTS networks, SGSN and MME testing in LTE , AAA in LTE and AS and CSCF in the IMS.
The diagram below shows the HSS network components and these defined reference points (interfaces):
S6a/d — Enables transfer of subscription and authentication data for authenticating/authorizing user access to the evolved system (AAA interface) between MME/SGSN and HSS.
S13/S13’ — Provides a reference point (EIR Interface) between MME/SGSN and HSS to perform identity check procedure invoked from MME/SGSN, respectively.
SWx — The reference point is located between 3GPP AAA Server and HSS and is used for transport of authentication, subscription and PDN connection related data.
SBc — Configure the CBC interface used for Public Warning message ( Emergency Broadcast System).
Gr — The Gr interface tab in HSS Node test case to test communication between SGSN and HSS.
Slh - The Slh interface in HSS node test case to respond to routing information request from GMLC.
Sh— The Interface between AS and HSS for storing, retrieving and modifying User data..Ex. User Location information, User related Data, group lists, etc.
Cx— Used between the CSCFs and the HSS to provide subscriber data. Location management procedures, User data handling and Authentication procedures.
S6t - The S6t interface is between the HSS and SCEF (Services Capability Exposure Function). S6t is used for connecting the SCEF to HSS containing subscription and UE related information, monitoring event configuration/deletion by the SCEF and the HSS, monitoring event reporting by the HSS to the SCEF and configuration/deletion of communication pattern parameters by the SCEF to HSS.
